Paolo Grassi is a Swiss conceptual artist whose work explores the relationship between numbers, time, and transformation. His language merges abstraction and precision, unfolding through sculptures, paintings, installations, and performances. At the core of his practice lies the numerical sequence, both as a structural element and a metaphor for the human condition: each number is unique, unrepeatable, and part of a greater whole.
In 2007, Paolo Grassi initiated the long-term project From “0” to Infinity”, an open and evolving body of work that now includes over 285 numbered pieces. Each creation represents a fragment of infinity. Through geometric forms, varied materials, and poetic solutions, the artist explores the tension between order and chaos, presence and absence, the visible and the invisible. The numbers—engraved, painted, or perforated—are never random: they follow a unique, non-repeating sequence that gives each work its identity while connecting it to the entire project.
Paolo Grassi’s approach is rooted in a deep understanding of art as an act of thought and existence. His sculptures, often in bronze, corten steel, or plexiglass, are characterized by their formal clarity and inner tension. His site-specific installations, integrated into public and urban spaces, engage with architecture and collective memory. His paintings and works on paper translate the same numerical obsession into chromatic and two-dimensional compositions.
Paolo Grassi’s works are included in both public and private collections in Switzerland and abroad. He has participated in major international exhibitions and received numerous awards. Il suo linguaggio unisce astrazione e rigore, articolandosi in sculture, dipinti, installazioni e performance. Al centro della sua ricerca sta la sequenza numerica come struttura dell’opera e come simbolo della condizione umana: ogni elemento è unico, irripetibile e parte di un tutto più ampio.
Nel 2007 Paolo Grassi ha avviato il progetto From “0” to Infinity”, un’opera aperta e in continua espansione che conta oggi oltre 285 lavori numerati. Ogni creazione rappresenta un frammento dell’infinito: attraverso forme geometriche, materiali differenti e soluzioni poetiche, l’artista esplora il legame tra ordine e caos, presenza e assenza, visibile e invisibile. I numeri incisi, dipinti o traforati sulle opere non sono mai casuali: seguono un criterio di successione unica, non ripetibile, che dà identità all’opera e la collega a tutte le altre del progetto.
L’approccio di Paolo Grassi si radica in una visione profonda del fare arte come atto di pensiero e di esistenza. Le sue sculture, spesso in bronzo, acciaio corten o plexiglass, si distinguono per un’estrema pulizia formale e una forte tensione interna. Le installazioni site-specific, collocate in spazi pubblici e urbani, trasformano il contesto e dialogano con l’architettura e la memoria collettiva. I dipinti e le opere su carta traducono in chiave cromatica e bidimensionale la medesima ossessione per la struttura numerica.
Le opere di Paolo Grassi fanno parte di collezioni pubbliche e private in Svizzera e all’estero. L’artista ha partecipato a importanti rassegne internazionali e ha ricevuto numerosi riconoscimenti. Il progetto From “0” to Infinity” rappresenta non solo una pratica artistica coerente e radicale, ma anche un invito a riflettere sul tempo, sull’identità e sulla possibilità di un’arte che tenga insieme rigore concettuale ed emozione.
