1. Introduction

Paolo Grassi is a Swiss conceptual artist whose work explores the relationship between numbers, time, and transformation. His project From “0” to Infinity is an open and evolving body of more than 285 works, where each creation is both unique and part of a larger whole.

Rooted in design, architecture, and visual experimentation, Paolo Grassi transforms numbers into a universal artistic language. Digits are not abstract signs of calculation but living structures that carry identity, rhythm, and memory. Each work is numbered sequentially and unrepeatably, creating a bridge between individuality and continuity.

2. The Project

From “0” to Infinity

Started in 2007, From “0” to Infinity is a long-term conceptual framework in which every work is identified by a sequential, non-repeating number. This numbering is not a mere system of classification but the very essence of the project, embodying both identity and continuity.

Over the years, the project has expanded to include bronze sculptures, monumental site-specific installations, paintings, corten steel works, and performances. Despite the diversity of media, all the works share the same principle: numbers become visual language, rhythm, and memory. Numerical progression is thus transformed into a poetic narrative, capable of inhabiting both intimate and monumental contexts.

3. Language, Materials and Themes

Paolo Grassi’s artistic language combines abstraction and geometry with poetic sensitivity. Numbers are carved, cast, painted, or perforated, generating sequences and spatial rhythms across different media. Bronze communicates permanence and memory, corten steel interacts with weather and time, while acrylic on canvas allows pure chromatic investigation.

His site-specific works transform urban spaces into places of reflection and encounter, where numbers become part of the lived environment. Central themes include: Time & Transformation as numbers measure becoming; Identity & Uniqueness with each work singular and unrepeatable; Order & Chaos balancing rigor and openness; and Visible & Invisible, where numbers act as codes and metaphors of existence.
